May 4, 2002 - El Torreon - Kansas City, MO, USA
I attended the Manowar show in Kansas City on Saturday, May 4th. It's always been a dream of mine to see the band live. I was dissapointed that they'd missed KC on the original tour announcement, but when the booking was announced on Wednesday I immediately cancelled all my plans and made sure I'd be able to go. Myself, my brother and my 52-year old mother (who is a huge fan) all attended.
The venue itself was little more than a closet and there couldn't have been fifty people there the whole time. I've seen pictures of the crowds and arenas Manowar plays to overseas, this was the dynamic opposite. It'd have been easy for the band to "phone it in" as they say and give less than their usual effort. Even with the small room and few fans in attendance Manowar blew the roof off the arena. I knew I wouldn't be dissapointed, but that show actually exceeded what I was expecting. It confirmed the belief I've held ever since I first heard Manowar in 1993 - that there are only two types of music in the world: Manowar and everything else.
I just want to say thanks to Manowar for everything, for making the dreams of these three fans come true. I'd pay triple what I did last night to see them again. PLEASE come back to KC sometime in the future!!
