April 27, 2002 - The Trocadero - Philadelphia PA, USA

Hail To You All The Brothers And Sisters around the World.I have seen MANOWAR over 23 times since 1983.I went to the Trocadero in Pilly last nite April 27 and this was by far the best I have seen the band live.First off,the venue was packed full. This was the first time the band played this city. There were two warmup bands but I missed them.I got to meet Joey,Eric & Scott outside there tour bus and they were great to me and my son John who is just 14 and attending his first show.Manowar really love there fans and the way Joey took the time to chat with us was brillant. Now on to the show. They opened with Manowar and man did they look and sound killer.I was blown away with the sound mix.The sound man was on from the start. The crowd was insane all nite.Next was Blood Of My Enemies and this was fuckin so heavy.Eric was so into this show it was so GOD-Like to hear this man hit every note he has done the past 2Oyrs.They played Kill With Power,Metal Warriors,Heart Of Steel. In Heart Of Steel the crowd sang the intro with Eric and man in was unbeleivable.Next up was the new single Warriors Of The World United and the fans went nuts for this song. This was so powerfull.I love the lryics to this track.By the second verse everybody was singing along. They played 75 minutes and did 2 encores Wheels Of Fire & Blackwind Fire&Steel. This was a fantastic performance from the band.Eric Adams is better then ever,Joey Demaio is unbelievable,Scott was amazing all nite and Karl is by far the best guitarist out today. All I can tell the fans is get ready to have your face blown off. They were louder and better then ever!!!They Are THE METAL KINGS.HAIL TO YOU ALL! DEATH TO FALSE METAL!!!!!!!!!!

Manowar Setlist and Review Phila 4/27/02

"This Is Our First Time In Philadelphia, But It Wont Be Our Last" - Eric Adams

Just back from the Manowar show. After waiting 20 years to see the band. I was not disappointed. I have to think back but I have to say this was my favorite show of all time I have never experienced such power and passion from a band. They gave 150 % It was an awesome experience

Setlist and a few observations :
Orson Welles Intro
MANOWAR
BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES
KILL WITH POWER - the mosh pit was a dangerous place during this tune
METAL WARRIORS
HEART OF STEEL – the crowd singing the chorus was deafening
Bass Solo/ STING OF THE BUMBLEBEE Joey IS a god. His hands were a blur
WARRIORS OF THE WORLD – a bit faster then the studio version, really kicks butt
FIGHTING THE WORLD
KINGS OF METAL
OUTLAW
THE POWER
HAIL AND KILL – at the end of the song Eric held out Karl’s guitar and Joey’s bass flat while the play the “outro”
WHEELS OF FIRE
BLACK WIND, FIRE, AND STEEL - at the end of the song Joey proceeded to rip every string off his bass and give it to someone in the crowd

One other thing, I never expected such a diverse crowd at a Manowar show. I saw at least 12-15 african americans, half a dozen or more indian people, a lot of chinese, a girl who must have been 14, some other people who had to be in their 50’s. There were plenty of “metal chicks” but there was also a fair amount of what I would call “preppy” women

Oh and the mosh pit was INSANE !
Karl Logan is an EXCELLENT guitarist, he shreds !
Scott Columbus really pounds on those drums (I never knew he was a “lefty”)

PS: Opening bands HavocHate and Catastrophic were terrible !

It has been a good month. I was ecstatic when I saw that Manowar was playing 2 shows in my immediate area. One show in Baltimore on March 31st and one in Philly on April 27th. It has been quite some time since I have seen Manowar live but I have seen them so the bar of expectation was set very high based on previous experience. I was not to be disappointed

April 27 – The Trocadero; Philadelphia, PA

Now this is the place to see a show! This olde-style theater is perfect for shows. The stage is set high with a good area in front; a balcony above provides lots of space for more fans as well. Once again there were two bands that opened for Manowar. HavocHate and Catastrophic. Catastrophic was decent but seemed out of place opening for Manowar. HavocHate was first up. I had been listening to their demo from their up-coming album “This Violent Earth”. After they took the stage, I realized that this band has some serious potential. They need two things that are immediately obvious. First, they need to vary the tempo of their music. Every song (except for their last, and best song) is played at the same tempo. If they slowed some of the songs down (or sped some up) to change it up a bit, I think it would be a lot easier to get into it. By the fourth song, it felt as if I was getting beaten to death by the same song over and over. Second, do something with the lead singer. The band has a lot of talent but not in the front-man.

Manowar. This show blew the roof off of “The Troc” and sent it flying up into the rainy, Philadelphia night sky. It is a real treat to watch a band perform that obviously loves what they do. Their passion and conviction for the music, for the lifestyle, for each other and especially for the fans is evident in every song…every note played. It is evident in the way they perform, the look in their eyes, the smile on their faces. This is why I’m a Manowar fan. The set-list was the same as in Baltimore except in a slightly different order and with the addition of “Sign of the Hammer” which rocked the Hall to the foundation. Eric was crushing every song. Joey, Karl and Scott were blowing-up on stage before my very eyes; Manowar was firing on all cylinders. At one point, they played at least 4 or 5 songs NON-Stop…one right into the next. It was absolutely amazing. One highlight from this show was “Warriors of the World”, the title track off the new album. This is an anthem for the new millennium…I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album. I would venture to say that this show was just about sold out. Joey and Eric both made a point to promise the crowd that Manowar would return to Philly. I will be there when they return. It was a good month.

Hail, Kings of Metal!!!

I don't know if you actually read emails sent to you or have someone read it and answer for you but I just wanted to Hail you all on behalf of the Philadelphia brothers and sisters of true metal. I just attended your show at the Troc on April 27. This was the very first time for me and most other fans there that night experiencing Manowar live since as you stated it was your first time there. It was an experience I will grow old with. Sure I am just a baby girl to most veterans of true metal out there (having just turned 18 on new year's eve) but unlike most young people these days I'm fucking fed up with the shit they play on the radio. I'm fucking fed up with the shit they play on MTV. And most of all I'm fucking fed up with the posers who actually listen to that bullshit and then have the balls to put manowar down. Fuck them. In the end we'll be the ones who come out strong, because you guys have something others don't, you have built up a strength, a power like no other that makes Manowar fans all over believe in who they are and what they like. Your music has actually tought us to not care what others think about us and keep playing what we believe in. It's so refreshing to see a band who believes in what they do and just wants to get out and conquer everything and give the true metalheads something to fight for!! Music is a beautiful thing, and I also would like to thank you, all four of you gorgeous metal kings, for bringing something this glorious into my life and showing me the way at such a young age when I need it most. I started listening to you at 13 and Manowar will be a part of my life forever! I don't care how old I am, every time you play a show in my area I'll fucking be there, front row. Not like you would remember with how many people you see each day, but I was in the front to your right at the corner of the stage wearing my black headband with a red skull on it and I couldnt controll myself when you hit the stage. Man I went fucking nuts. It's just the atmosphere and the metal...it makes me forget all existance. I wanted badly to meet you guys and get an autograph to hang proudly upon my wall, to only get so close to my own heroes, but I couldnt go to the afterparty since I am only 18 and I couldn't find your tour bus. I want to beg you guys to please come back to Philly...I havent had enough...it was over too soon. At least by next year. Keep playing forever and I'll keep listening.
